VEGGIE LOVE... ENVIRONMENT LOVE... SELF LOVE...

What started as somewhat of a challenge against myself has since turned into a way of life. I have now been a "veggie" for over a year! Wooohooo! It feels great! Not just within MY body, but also knowing that I am helping the environment. Many people are surprised when they hear that I'm a "veggie". I don't know if it's an appearance thing or what...??? It was just something I wanted to try and to be quite honest, I LOVE IT! There are so many options nowadays to eat meatless that it makes it painless- no pun inteded, haha!

Here's an interesting short article I found on GoVeg.com. Enjoy!

Now go meatless!

Global warming. Overexploited natural resources. Deforestation. Wasted land. Water and air pollution. The most serious environmental problems of our time are all directly linked to eating meat.

A 2006 United Nations report summarized the devastation caused by the meat industry by calling it "one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global." The report recommended that animal agriculture "be a major policy focus when dealing with problems of land degradation, climate change and air pollution, water shortage and water pollution, and loss of biodiversity."1

Many leading environmental organizations, such as the National Audubon Society and the Sierra Club, are now establishing the link between eating meat and eco-disasters like climate change. According to Environmental Defense, if every American skipped one meal of chicken per week and substituted vegetarian foods instead, the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than a half-million cars off U.S. roads.

Oh and one more quick tidbit...
Eating 1 pound of meat emits the same amount of greenhouse gases as driving an SUV 40 miles! Hmmmm, somethin to think about :)
